Mont St. Michele and beyond........March 12, 2015

After breakfast at Hotel le Bayeaux we drove to Mont St. Michele, a magnificent  medieval structure once only accessible by a sandbar during low tide.   It is an old abbey constructed in the 10th century and is protected by the Unesco World Heritage. Today, a causeway connects this landmark to civilization.

Poor Alan, became sick just as we're about to explore Mont St. Michele, so he decided to stay in the car until our return.  Rob, Teri, and I walked about the castle for a while.

Then we make a group decision to travel back to Bayeaux.  On our way home, we stop first at Super Market for 7-Up/water and then stop by a local pharmacy for some meds. Back in Bayeaux, Teri and Alan rest in their room while Rob and I venture into town for lunch.  We split a "famous" French ham and cheese sandwich, some chips, and a Coke (aaawwww, shades of Atlanta).  Upon our return to the hotel, we learn that now Teri also has the stomach bug.  Rob decides to rest while I explore the cute little town.  First, I pass an elementary school field trip, which certainly pulls at my heart strings.  Then I get lost, but ask for directions, TWICE!!!!  I've quickly learned to say, "Merci"to my sweet French helpers.  Finally, I made it to the tapestry telling the story of William the Conquere and  the Battle of Hastings.  I absolutely loved my quiet time looking at this incredible needlework depicting a historical event in pictures because, at the time, the majority of citizens were illiterate.  Fortunately, there were very few tourists that day, and I basically had the place to myself.  We decide to skip an evening meal (truly, we could have lived off the fat we've gained so far on this trip) and crash into bed early.  Tomorrow is a BIG day!!!!
