May 31, 2024 - We leave our home in two separate Lyft vehicles because it is cheaper than parking at the ATL airport for 10 days. We arrive at the airport within minutes of each other. We check in at Delta's Wheelchair assistance. Ari and Rob go with Delta folks, but the kids and I go through regular security since they didn't have TSA precheck. The line isn't too awful, so in no time we're at our gate in no time. Naturally, the kids are hungry so I take them to MacDonald's for food. This takes forever, so by the time we arrive back at the gate, it's time to preboard. Delta allows all six of us to board, which is very convenient. Rob and I were upgraded to First Class (whoo hoo) so we settle in. Ari, Robert H, David, and Lily are back in the economy. I watch a movie while Rob sleeps. The San Juan airport was easy, and getting a taxi/van was super easy and cheap. We arrived at Hotel Rambao and were very pleased with our rooms. Rob takes a little nap while we go to the nearby CVS. We decided to dine in the hotel's restaurant, which turned out to be an excellent choice. Everyone loved his/her meal. The kids decide that they would like to go to the pool on top of the hotel for a while. It was a lovely evening and the kids had a great time. We all read for a while and crash since we have an early morning.
June 1, 2023 - San Juan, Puerto Rico - We meet for breakfast in the hotel's restaurant and enjoy an awesome meal. Our travel guide called to arrange a pickup, which was right in front of our hotel, and we're off to explore. We drove through the city, seeing lots of "interesting sights" on our way to El Yunque rain forest. This rain forest was preserved thanks to President T. Roosevelt. It is the only rain forest in North America. We begin our hike, observing all types of rain forest foilage. Eventually, we come to the rock slide, which both David and Lily enjoyed immensely.
We continue on our hike until arriving at a beautiful natural pool. I spotted a huge boulder, and I immediately knew that Lily would be jumping off the hill, which she, and eventually David, did.
After our hike, we were dropped off for a couple of hours at a lovely beach that had many restaurants. We went to the one our tour guide recommended. I had an icy pina colada and then we all enjoyed great calamari. Lily and I ordered some dish that we weren't exactly thrilled with, but truthfully, it was too hot to eat. The kids and I went to the beach, while Ari and Robert stayed in the cooler restaurant. The tour guide dropped us off at the hotel close to our kayak excursion. Robert and Ari took Lyft back to the hotel. They were going to take Rob out to dinner while Lily, David, and I did our night kayaking. The kids and I walked along the sea wall for our while until it was time for our tour. The kayaking was fun, but we were a bit disappointed since we did not see any bioluminescent creatures.
We took Lyft back to the hotel, purchased a few snacks, (David went to Starbucks with Ari and Robert) and showered before crashing into bed after a fabulous day.
